She lived on the open prairie until she was 20 years old when she traveled by covered wagon to Indian Territory , Oklahoma. She met and married Henry McLish a half blood Chicasaw Indian.After having 5 children and several grandchildren she passed away in Oklahoma in 1921.This sampler is a tribute to her and is stitched as authentically as I could including the not so perfect border on the right hand side- much as a 10 year old would have stitched it. 1848 Sarah Dow Sampler

had a lot of fun designing and stitching this tribute sampler to my great great gandmother Sarah Ellen Jones Dow. She was born in 1838 in Kentucky.
The sampler is not a complete alphabet to represent more accurately how a 10 year old would have made a sampler. There are a few motifs- including the ever popular bird motif!
It is stitched with dark gray, rusty brown and, dark teal blue threads.
The model was stitched on 14 count Aida but can easily be stitched on Osnaburg or linen. Approx. design size on 14 count fabric 4 1/2" wide x 6" high.
